PWO was commissioned to create a visual identity for the Trainspotting season at the National Railway Museum.
The process began with research into trainspotting culture past and present. There's more to it than collecting locomotive numbers. Spotter's stories describe a sense of adventure, passion, anticipation, drama and obsession.
Using elements of the original British Rail corporate identity, spotter's notebooks, tinted archive photography and gritty textures, PWO assembled a toolkit of colours, shapes, typography and imagery. Combined in different juxtapositions, these graphic elements have a grainy, rebellious feel that challenges stereotypes and preconceptions.
The visual identity was used for a range of visual assets to promote the Trainspotting season, along with a guidebook and wayfinding elements.
